Dr. Jianwen Zhang, Founder, Former Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Jianwen Zhang is the founder of Coalescence BioPharma and previously served as the company's Chief Executive Officer. With over 30 years of expertise in preclinical biology and the biopharmaceutical industry, Dr. Zhang's leadership was instrumental in shaping the company's scientific and strategic foundation. His extensive experience spans small molecule and biological drug development, including antiviral therapies, oncology, and treatments for rare diseases such as Hereditary Angioedema (HAE).
2001-2012: Senior Scientist and Study Director of Preclinical Biology at BioCryst Pharmaceuticals Inc. Played a pivotal role in the successful launch of Berotralstat, a groundbreaking drug for treating Hereditary Angioedema (HAE).
2013-2018: Chief Scientist and Business Development Head at KPC Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Demonstrated exemplary leadership by securing over four cross-border partnership projects through license-in, equity investment, and co-development models.
2019-2024: Founder and former CEO of Coalescence BioPharma; current Partner at Angine Biotech. Dr. Zhang continues to contribute to global business development and strategic collaborations.

Zhiping Weng, MS, Managing Director, Strategic Operations
As Managing Director of Strategic Operations at Coalescence BioPharma, Ms. Weng provides high-level support in operational planning, scientific strategy, and international coordination, contributing significantly to the company's cross- border research efforts and compliance infrastructure.
Ms. Zhiping Weng brings over 30 years of experience in scientific research, bioinformatics, and project coordination. She earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in science from Fudan University, China. From 1991 to 1993, she was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) in Trieste, Italy.
In 1997, Ms. Weng joined the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine, where she earned a Master's degree in Computer Science, specializing in bioinformatics. She currently serves as a team leader and Scientist II in a dynamic research group in the Department of Dermatology at UAB, where her research focuses on skin-related diseases.
